The Management
Framework and background
paper proposes a detailed Institutional Control Management Framework for the long-term
management of decommissioned mine/mill properties for public consideration and comment. The proposed framework responds to
what we have heard from industry, environmental organizations and
Northerners - that a clear, prescribed process is needed to guide the
management of decommissioned mine/mill properties on Crown lands.

Saskatchewan Environment, in co-operation with the City of Prince Albert,
is conducting an environmental monitoring program in a residential area in
the city's northeast. The monitoring in Riverview is part of the ongoing
assessment of areas adjacent to known creosote contamination on the former
sites of two wood treatment facilities, south and west of the residences.
Results of the tests show the presence of creosote contamination on a few
properties. It also shows that dioxins
and furans are present in some areas. |
