On March 23, 2006 the province announced
that all SARCAN depots will begin collecting waste paint starting on
April 1, 2006 as part of an industry-led stewardship operated paint
collection and recycling program. In 2004, Saskatchewan Environment began consulting with stakeholders and the public
about the possibility of two new recycling initiatives. One related
to waste
paint, and the second related to old
electronic equipment, such as computer monitors and printers. The
department is continuing to work on the development of an e-waste
recycling program.

Recycling means diverting waste material before it reaches the waste disposal grounds and turning it into a resource that can be sold and used in the manufacture of new items. This reduces the amount of waste going to waste disposal grounds, increases their projected life span and ultimately reduces operating costs. This
publication lists a number of province-wide recycling initiatives underway in Saskatchewan.
