Provide radio communication to Department staff and air support while involved in the fire suppression activities. Transmits and receives messages to and from personnel in the field. Provide a flight watch for all aircraft working out of that fire base. Maintain a detailed written record of all radio and telephone communications (e.g. Location of aircraft, personal, requests for equipment, locations of fires, etc.) Broadcast daily alerts and weather indices to the area fire towers. You will be required to take a “Radio Telephone Operator’s restricted Certificate Course”. The work requires the candidate to operate and care for radio and telecommunications equipment. Position will function as an aerial observer, with duties to include detection of fires, plotting location, documenting smoke reports and patrol reports, relaying relevant information to fire bases or initial attack crews and conducting debriefings with supervisor. Position will be required to operate a VHF/FM radio and obtain a restricted radio operator’s license, operate a digital camera and develop reports utilizing a computer. Applicant must be able to travel in small aircraft for up to 4 hours at a time during extreme fire conditions and be able to work away from home base. Other duties as assigned.
