September 1999: Team Canada Mission to Japan
Mission:
- 269 business delegation participants
- 216 companies represented - 74.1% SMEs
- 50 women entrepreneurs (18.6%)
- 29 young entrepreneurs (10.7%)
- 4 aboriginal business people (1.6%)
- Quebec and Ontario had the largest company participation, with BC coming a close third
- Companies were represented from all provinces and territories
- Information and Communications Technologies was the largest sector represented: 56 participants
- Education was the second largest sector represented: 35 participants
Results:
- $409 million in deals
- 7 contracts valued at $178 million
- 11 memoranda of understanding worth $52 million
- 4 Letters of Intent valued at $22 million
- 5 other types of agreements with a value of $157 million.
- 6 additional agreements will bring Canadian products to the Japanese
market estimated at $3 billion over the next ten years
