Highways around the world are equipped with traffic management systems produced in Saskatoon by
International Road Dynamics (IRD). The company designs and installs lane control, vehicle
classification and revenue collection systems which enable private road concessionaires and toll
agencies to audit and track toll receipts and to control pilferage.
About 98 percent of the company's sales are generated by exports--mainly to the United States. IRD
has also become a major supplier of toll road systems to transitional and developing countries. In 2000,
the company was awarded a contract with one of India's largest infrastructure corporations for a 12-lane toll collection and auditing system--the second such contract with this particular customer. The
first one, says Roy Parsons, IRD's Director of International Sales, stemmed from the company's
participation in the Team Canada 1996 trade mission to South and Southeast Asia. "Team Canada
opened doors and provided IRD with an excellent opportunity to gain additional market credibility,"
says Parsons, who also participated in the Team Canada 1995 trade mission to South America.
Established in 1980, IRD employs 160 people and maintains sales and service offices in Colombia,
Brazil, India and throughout the United States. All manufacturing, engineering services and support,
project management, and marketing and sales support are provided from its Canadian operations.
