John Manley, Minister of Foreign Affairs, today announced the appointment of Simon Wade as High Commissioner to the
Republic of Trinidad and Tobago.

BIOGRAPHICAL NOTE
Born in Victoria, Simon Wade holds degrees from Victoria College of the University of British Columbia and the
University of Washington. He joined the Department of External Affairs in 1967 and served at Canadian diplomatic
missions in Dublin, Rome, Budapest, Warsaw and Bridgetown. From 1993 to 1996, he served as High Commissioner to the
Co-operative Republic of Guyana, serving concurrently as non-resident Ambassador to the Republic of Suriname. In
Ottawa, Mr. Wade has held a number of positions, including Co-ordinator for Access to Information and Privacy, Director
of the Cabinet Liaison Division and Director of the Corporate Communications Division. He has been Director of the
Caribbean and Central America Division since 1997. Mr. Wade is married to Mariev Searson and has two children. He
succeeds Peter Lloyd.
