Phillips</strong> (BA, University of Saskatchewan, 1962; LLB, University of Saskatchewan, 1964), joined the Department of External Affairs in 1965 and has served abroad in Addis Ababa, Dublin, Nairobi, and in London as Minister (Political and Public Affairs). From 1991 to 1995, he was Ambassador to Sweden. Since 1996, Mr. Phillips has been Ambassador to Ireland. In Ottawa, </font></p> <p><font face="Courier">Mr. Phillips has held the positions of Assistant Director General of the Legal Bureau (1980-1981) and Director General of the Foreign Policy and General Communication Bureau (1988-1989). From 1989 to 1991, he served as Assistant Deputy Minister, United States Relations Branch, and again from 1995 to 1996 as Assistant Deputy Minister, United States Branch. He is married to Oonagh Mary Phillips and they have two children. Mr. Phillips succeeds George Haynal.<strong></strong></font></p> <p><font face="Courier"><strong>Ian McLean</strong> (BA Honours, McGill University; MPA, Harvard University), joined the Department of External Affairs in 1968 and has served abroad in Saigon, Hanoi, Geneva, and in Paris as Counsellor (Economic). Since 1994, Mr. McLean has served as Consul General in Milan. In Ottawa, Mr. McLean has held the positions of Director, United States General Relations and Programs Division and Director General, United States Relations Branch. He is married to Anne Hald and they have one daughter. Mr. McLean succeeds John J. Noble. </font></p> </body> </html>
