MARCHI WELCOMES NEW SPONSOR OF THE
CANADA EXPORT AWARDS
International Trade Minister Sergio Marchi today officially welcomed Teleglobe
Inc. as a new sponsor of the 1998 Canada Export Awards.
Under the banner "Partners in Trade," Teleglobe joins two other organizations
well known for their support of Canadian exporters, CIBC and EDC (Export
Development Corporation), as official sponsors of the 16-year-old awards program.
"The collaborative efforts between government and the private sector is testimony
to the Team Canada approach to international trade," said Minister Marchi. "It is
with great pleasure that the Department welcomes the participation of Teleglobe
Inc. in acknowledging the success of Canadian exporters."
"As a global leader in international telecommunications, we understand the
challenge for Canadian companies to successfully export their products and
services in today's competitive environment," said Richard Gendron, Vice-President, Sales and Marketing, Business Services, Teleglobe Communications
Services Inc. "Teleglobe is proud to recognize these companies' contribution to
the Canadian economy and their success in the international marketplace."
Teleglobe's global network includes submarine cable and satellite facilities
linking North America with over 240 countries and territories to meet the global
connectivity needs of carriers around the world.
The Canada Export Awards are presented annually by the Department of Foreign
Affairs and International Trade to Canadian companies that have excelled in
exporting their products and services to countries throughout the world.
This year's recipients will be announced at a special ceremony in Calgary,
Alberta, on October 5, 1998, in conjunction with the third annual meeting of the
