STATEMENT BY MINISTER MACKAY CONDEMNING BOMBINGS IN
SOUTHERN THAILAND
The Honourable Peter MacKay, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Minister of the Atlantic
Canada Opportunities Agency, today issued the following statement in response to the
latest bombings in southern Thailand:
“Canada strongly condemns the senseless, brutal, coordinated violence in the south of
Thailand. This terrorist attack regrettably claimed the lives of innocent civilians,
including one Canadian, Jesse Lee Daniel. We offer our sincere condolences to the
family and friends of Mr. Daniel and the other victims.
“Canada will continue to cooperate with Thailand and other partners, both regionally
and globally, to counter the threat of terrorism. We encourage the Government of
Thailand to continue to work toward a peaceful solution to terrorist violence in the
south.”
