MINISTER MACKAY CONDEMNS BOMBINGS IN VARANASI, INDIA
Foreign Affairs Minister Peter MacKay today issued the following statement on the
bombings that killed at least 15 people and injured more than 100 others in Varanasi,
India:
“The Government of Canada strongly condemns the recent attacks on the holy city of
Varanasi and the terrorists who have brought violence and bloodshed to this sacred city
of peace and tolerance. This tragic event follows a series of cowardly terrorist acts,
including the bombings in New Delhi in October 2005. On behalf of all Canadians, I
wish to extend my deepest sympathies to those injured in yesterday’s attacks and to the
families of all the victims.”
