<html> <head> <meta name="generator" content="Corel WordPerfect 12"> <meta http-equiv="content-Type" content="text/html; charset=utf-8"> <style> p { margin-top: 0px; margin-bottom: 1px } body { font-family: "Arial", sans-serif; font-size: 12pt; font-weight: normal; font-style: normal } </style> </head> <body> <p><span style="font-size: 14pt"><span style="font-weight: bold">March 29, 2006 <i>(7:15 p.m. EST)</i><br> No. 31</span></span></p> <br> <p style="text-align: center"><span style="font-weight: bold"><span style="font-size: 14pt">STATEMENT BY MINISTER MACKAY ON THE UNITED NATIONS SECURITY COUNCIL STATEMENT ON IRAN&#8217;S NUCLEAR PROGRAM</span></span></p> <br> <p>Foreign Affairs Minister Peter MacKay today issued the following statement regarding the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) Presidential Statement on Iran&#8217;s nuclear program:</p> <br> <p>&#8220;Canada fully supports the Presidential Statement issued today by the UNSC, which expresses the international community&#8217;s ongoing and serious concerns about Iran&#8217;s nuclear activities, and which calls on Iran to immediately re-establish the full, sustained and verifiable suspension of all nuclear enrichment and reprocessing activities and to fully cooperate with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA). </p> <br> <p>&#8220;It is important for Iran to take these steps in order to restore international confidence in the peaceful nature of its nuclear activities and fulfill its nuclear non-proliferation obligations. Canada urges Iran to heed the calls of the UNSC and the IAEA without delay and to pursue diplomatic negotiations towards a durable solution.</p> <br> <p>&#8220;We believe the UNSC has an important role to play in view of the broader implications of the Iran nuclear issue.
