Take action on Climate Change.
Together, we can do it.

Welcome to the website of Canada’s Clean Development Mechanism and Joint Implementation Office. We are Canada’s designated national authority for approving emission reduction projects with international partners.

Under the Kyoto Protocol, ratified by Canada on December 17, 2002, several mechanisms have been developed to help countries meet their targets in a cost effective way. Effective use of these mechanisms will not only help reduce greenhouse gases but provide international business opportunities and potential new revenue streams for both domestic and foreign businesses.

These mechanisms are the Clean Development Mechanism (CDM), Joint Implementation (JI) and International Emissions Trading. The CDM and JI Office has been created to help you take advantage of the first two of these.

Industry, non-governmental organizations and all levels of governments can participate in CDM and JI projects.
