Welcome to the website of the Canadian Embassy in Damascus

I hope that this site will help you to find whatever information you need on the various activities of the Embassy in Syria, as well as provide links to information on Canada and Canadian government policies, domestic and foreign.

With a staff of almost 80 Canadians and Syrians, the Embassy delivers programs and services in the areas of political and economic relations, public affairs, immigration and visitor visa services, consular, trade and business development, and administration.

In addition to its responsibilities for issuing visitor and student visas to Syrian nationals, the Embassy's Immigration program is responsible for issuing immigrant visas to nationals of Iran, Iraq, Jordan and Lebanon.

If you are a Canadian resident of Syria or of Cyprus, I urge you to register with our Consular section since that is our only way of knowing of your presence and to stay in touch.

Canadian-Syrian bilateral relations are long-standing and varied. Canada's links with Syria go back over a century, to the arrival of the first Syrian immigrants to Canada in 1882. Continued immigration to Canada from Syria has created a vibrant and growing Syrian-Canadian community which compliments the political, commercial and cultural ties between the two countries. Diplomatic relations were established in 1965. Canada opened an embassy in Damascus in 1985 and Syria opened its embassy in Ottawa in 1999.

Canada is an active trade partner with Syria and Canadian companies are investing in Syria's future. For more information, visit the Canadian Trade Commissioner Service Web site.

I hope that you will find this website and its links to other sites both informative and helpful in providing general and specific information on a variety of topics.
