KNUTSON - VISIT TO AZERBAIJAN, GEORGIA AND ARMENIA

Media representatives are advised that Gar Knutson, Secretary of State (Central and Eastern Europe and Middle East), will
visit Azerbaijan, Georgia and Armenia from November 11 to 16, 2002.
In Azerbaijan, Mr. Knutson will meet with President Haydar Aliyev, the Minister of Economic Development, business and
civil society representatives and government officials. He will also attend a book launch of an Azeri language translation of
The Loon's Necklace by Canadian author William Toye.
While in Georgia, Mr. Knutson will meet with President Eduard Shevardnadze, and will attend a donors' breakfast round
table on conflict resolution within Georgia. He will also attend a round table with the UN Organization Mission in Georgia
(UNOMIG) and the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe, as well as an event on social, political and
development issues with civil society representatives, to be hosted by the Georgia Foundation for Strategic and
International Studies. Mr. Knutson will also attend an event related to funding by CIDA and the International Finance
Corporation in support of a leasing industry in Georgia.
In Armenia, Mr. Knutson will call on Armenian President Robert Kocharian, participate in a business luncheon, and meet
with the ministers of Foreign Affairs and Trade and Economic Development.
