<p><strong>February 1, 2002 No. 18</strong></p>
<p>Minister of Foreign Affairs Bill Graham, Minister of Citizenship and Immigration Denis Coderre, and Minister for
International Cooperation Susan Whelan today announced that the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees,
Ruud Lubbers, will make an official visit to Canada from February 4 to 6, 2002.</p>
<p>Mr. Lubbers will meet with Prime Minister Jean Chrétien, Ministers Graham, Coderre and Whelan, as well as Minister of
National Defence Art Eggleton. The UN High Commissioner will also meet with members of Parliament and senators,
representatives from the Immigration and Refugee Board and a number of Canadian non-governmental groups.</p>
<p>The visit will provide an opportunity to discuss Canada's refugee policies and programs as well as ongoing humanitarian
crises, including the plight of Afghan refugees.</p>
