The official opening ceremony was attended by Ko&iuml;chiro Matsuura, Director-General of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), and Martin Cauchon, Minister of National Revenue and Secretary of State (Economic Development Agency of Canada for the Regions of Quebec).</p> <p>"Bringing the Institute to Montreal is the result of close cooperation among UNESCO, the governments of Canada and Quebec, Montreal International and Canadian academic institutions," said Minister Manley. "The Institute will contribute to the intellectual vitality and international prestige of Montreal.
