Mr.&nbsp;Roberts will serve as Canada's Commissioner General for the duration of the exposition.</font></p> <p><font face="Courier">Portugal will host Expo '98 from May 22 to September 30 under the theme "The Oceans: A Heritage for the Future." Participation in this exposition will allow Canada to increase public awareness about its approach to conservation and commitment to sustainable development through international co-operation, and to promote the country as a world leader in ocean-related research, technology and services.</font></p> <p><font face="Courier">John Roberts began his public service career as a Foreign Service Officer with the Department of External Affairs, and was posted to the United Nations and to Paris. He is a former parliamentarian who has held a number of ministerial portfolios, including Science and Technology, and Environment.</font></p> <p><font face="Courier">Mr.&nbsp;Roberts has lectured widely at universities throughout North America and, most recently, was a Visiting Lecturer on Environmental Management at Trent University in Peterborough, Ontario. He is also the author of articles on politics, political theory and environmental issues.
