Home Visas and Immigration Frequently Asked Questions

Frequently Asked Questions:

Question:
When should I apply for a visitor visa?

Answer:
You should submit your visitor visa application at least 21 days before your expected date of departure. If possible, apply 2 or 3 months before departure.

Question:
Where do I find application forms to apply for various immigration services?

Answer:
Forms are available on the Citizenship & Immigration Canada website, with the Havana Supplementary Non-Immigrant Form available here.

Question:
Do I have to use the official application forms, or can I submit the same or similar information in a different format?

Answer:
You must use the official forms -- this is required by law.

Question:
How many copies of the Immigration Application are to be submitted with the application for each person 18 years or over?

Answer:
Three.

Question:
Do I always have to come in person when I apply for a Temporary Resident Visa?

Answer:
No, but you will have to send someone to pay the fee. If you are able to send a certified Canadian cheque or money order drawn on a Canadian bank account and made out to the Receiver General for Canada, you may send the application by secure mail delivery such as DHL. While your application can be assessed without a personal interview, you will have to make yourself easily available for an interview, should one be required.

Question:
How long does it take to process a Family Class application?

Answer:
Cases that do not require a detailed background check or an interview are normally processed within six to eight months of receipt of the application, provided that no supplementary documents are required and the application was complete when handed in at the embassy.

Question:
Why is it that you do not respond to e-mail enquiries about clients' files?

Answer:
The Privacy Act of Canada safeguards the privacy of information about clients. Officers are only allowed to release information concerning a specific case to certain specified people who have provided written, signed authorization on file. Since it is impossible to identify the e-mail sender, we ask enquirers to send a fax addressed to the Immigration Section at (+53-7) 204-1069. A reply will be sent within 3 weeks of receipt of the fax.

Question:
What are some of the key internet links for immigration information?

Answer:
