<p>The Honourable David L. Emerson, Minister of International Trade, and United States
Trade Representative, Ambassador Susan Schwab, will initial the Softwood Lumber
Agreement at the Permanent Mission of Canada in Geneva, Switzerland, on Saturday,
July 1, 2006, at 11:00 p.m. Geneva time (5:00 p.m. EDT).</p>

<p>The initialling, which signals the completion of negotiations, builds on the framework
agreement announced on April 27, 2006.</p>

<p>A media teleconference with Minister Emerson and the Honourable Maxime Bernier,
Minister of Industry, will take place at 11:30 p.m. Geneva time (5:30 p.m. EDT) following
the initialling ceremony. A senior official from Foreign Affairs and International Trade
