Duhamel, Minister of Veterans Affairs and Secretary of State (Western Economic Diversification) (Francophonie), will visit N'Djamena, Chad, on February 7 and 8, 2001. Minister Duhamel will lead the Canadian delegation at the 15th Ministerial Conference of La Francophonie, an event over which he will also preside. The Conference, which takes place between the Moncton Summit of September 1999 and the Beirut Summit scheduled in October 2001, will allow participants to assess progress made to date and the work remaining for the implementation of the Action Plan adopted in Moncton. It will also allow participants to follow up on the outcome of an international symposium on the results of democratic practices, rights and liberties in Francophone communities, held in Bamako, Mali, in December 2000. Participants at the Chad Conference will also review preparations for the Beirut Summit and, more pressingly, for the June 2001 Ministerial Conference on Culture, where dialogue on culture will help shape the Beirut Summit discussions. Ronald J. Duhamel, effectuera une visite à N'Djamena, au Tchad, les 7 et 8 février. Le ministre Duhamel dirigera la délégation canadienne à la 15e Conférence ministérielle de la Francophonie qu'il présidera à titre de président en exercice. Cette Conférence de mi-parcours entre le Sommet de Moncton (septembre 1999) et celui de Beyrouth, au Liban (octobre 2001), permettra de dresser un bilan des actions entreprises et du travail qu'il reste à accomplir pour mettre en oeuvre le Plan d'action de Moncton, notamment le suivi du Symposium international sur le bilan des pratiques de la démocratie, des droits et des libertés dans l'espace francophone, tenu à Bamako, au Mali, en décembre 2000. Les participants à cette Conférence examineront également l'état des préparatifs du Sommet de Beyrouth et, à plus brève échéance, de la Conférence ministérielle sur la culture de juin 2001 dont les conclusions alimenteront les travaux du Sommet consacré au dialogue des cultures.
