<p><font size="-1"></font><font size="-1">Media representatives are advised that David Kilgour, Secretary of State (Latin America and Africa), will lead the
Canadian delegation to the United Nations Economic and Social Council's Substantive Session (ECOSOC), held
this year in Geneva, from July 2 to 27. </font></p>
<p><font size="-1">This year's high-level segment will focus on sustainable development in Africa. Secretary of State Kilgour will
deliver the Canadian statement on July 17. He will also meet with senior officials from participating nations, as well
as UN representatives specializing in African issues. </font></p>
<p><font size="-1">ECOSOC was established as one of the original UN Charter-based bodies with a mandate to address global issues in
economic, social, education, health and related fields, and to promote universal respect for human rights. The
Council convenes one substantive session annually, which rotates between Geneva and New York. </font></p>

dirigera la délégation canadienne qui participera à la session de fond du Conseil économique et social des Nations
