<html> <head> <meta name="Generator" content="Corel WordPerfect 8"> <title>APPOINTMENTS TO CANADIAN COMMERCIAL CORPORATION</title> </head> <body text="#000000" link="#0000ff" vlink="#551a8b" alink="#ff0000" bgcolor="#c0c0c0"> <p><font face="Arial"></font><font face="Arial" size="+1"></font><font face="Arial" size="+1"></font><font face="Arial" size="+1"><strong>November 3, 2003 <em>(9:10 a.m. EST)</em> No. 168</strong></font></p> <p align="CENTER"><font face="Arial" size="+1"><strong>APPOINTMENTS TO CANADIAN COMMERCIAL CORPORATION</strong></font></p> <p><font face="Arial">International Trade Minister Pierre Pettigrew today announced the appointments of John&nbsp;Duffy, David Fransen and Marie-Lucie Morin as members of the Board of Directors of the Canadian Commercial Corporation (CCC).</font></p> <p><font face="Arial">A seasoned business executive and chartered accountant, Mr. Duffy brings an analytical financial perspective to the strategic and day-to-day issues faced by business and non-profit organizations. Since 1991, Mr. Duffy has been working for Neate Roller Limited, a food service distribution company he now owns</font><font face="Arial">. Through his community involvement and corporate career, Mr. Duffy has gained expertise in a wide range of areas, including corporate and financial restructuring, union negotiations, human resources management, and strategic short- and long-term planning.</font></p> <p><font face="Arial">Since 1980, Mr. Fransen has occupied various positions in the Public Service. He has been a security and intelligence analyst with the Solicitor General and the Privy Council Office (PCO). From 1990 to 1995, he provided advice on environmental policy at PCO. He joined Industry Canada in 1995 as the Director of Economic Framework Policies, moving in 1997 to the position of Director General of the Office of Consumer Affairs. In 1999, Mr. Fransen joined Health Canada as the Director General of the Centre for Healthy Human Development. He returned to Industry Canada in 2001 and became Assistant Deputy Minister of the Industry Sector in March 2003.</font></p> <p><font face="Arial">Mrs. Morin joined the Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade in 1980. She served abroad as a trade commissioner in San Francisco from 1981 to 1984. She was posted to Jakarta from 1984 to 1986 and London from 1986 to 1990. From 1990 to 1994, Mrs. Morin returned to headquarters to lead the Export Financing Division. From 1994 to 1997, she acted as Minister-Counsellor at the Canadian embassy in Moscow. She was then appointed Canada's Ambassador to Norway and served in that position until 2001. She returned to Ottawa in September 2001 as Director General, International Business Development, Policy and Planning. In September 2003, Mrs.&nbsp;Morin became Assistant Deputy Minister, International Business, and Chief Trade Commissioner.</font></p> <p><font face="Arial">The CCC is an export contracting agency that brings buyers and Canadian exporters together through contracts built on the best possible terms and conditions. Since its inception, the CCC has provided assistance to thousands of companies from across Canada, helping them close more than $30 billion in deals with foreign governments and private sector buyers. </font></p> <p><font face="Arial">The CCC was established in 1946 by an Act of Parliament.
