GRAHAM TO ATTEND CANADA-EUROPEAN UNION SUMMIT
Foreign Affairs Minister Bill Graham today announced that he will attend the Canada-European Union (EU) Summit in
Athens, Greece, from May 27 to 29. He will also visit Germany, Poland, Turkey and Hungary between May 26 and June 2,
2003.
"These visits will further strengthen our close ties with our European partners," said Minister Graham. "At this important
time for trans-Atlantic relations, these close relationships with our European friends and allies will help ensure the effective
promotion of peace and stability in the world, and also contribute to a stronger global economy."
Mr. Graham will meet with government representatives in Berlin, Germany (May 26), and Warsaw, Poland (May 27),
before accompanying Prime Minister Jean Chrétien to Athens for the Canada-EU Summit, and bilateral meetings with
government representatives from Greece, the current EU President. At the Summit, leaders and ministers will explore ways
of enhancing Canada's multifaceted relations with the European Union and consider a wide variety of trans-Atlantic issues,
as well as Iraq.
Following the Summit, Mr. Graham will travel to Ankara, Turkey (May 29 to 31) and Budapest, Hungary (June 1 to 2) for
bilateral meetings with his counterparts.
