Passports

The Consular Section may issue new Canadian passports to replace expiring, full, lost or stolen ones. Application forms and further information are available at the High Commission or at the Passport Canada's website.

In accordance with the National Security Policy designed to increase the security of Canada and its citizens, all passport applications processed at the Canadian High Commission in Brunei will result in passports printed at the Mississauga Print Centre, Canada. This process is designed to ensure that all Canadians receive the same high-quality, machine-readable, digitized and secure passport whether you apply in Canada or at a passport office abroad. The service standard for delivery of this new, more secure passport will require up to fifteen working days, which includes courier time for this new product to be delivered from Canada to our office.

From 4 January 2005, visa pages can no longer be added to passports. A new passport must be obtained.

Inaccessible, mislaid, lost, stolen or destroyed passports: Applicants must report any of these conditions to the Canadian High Commission immediately. Lost or stolen passports must also be reported to the nearest police department. The complete police report must be submitted with the replacement application. Passport information is also available at Passport Canada’s Web site.

Important: For travel in Asia ensure your passport is valid at least six months beyond your planned trip.

Citizenship

The High Commission can provide application forms and information for persons born outside of Canada to a Canadian parent wishing to apply for a Canadian Citizenship Certificate.

Citizenship applications submitted at the High Commission are forwarded to the Registrar of Canadian Citizenship in Canada. Processing time is from 6-10 months. Please contact the Consular Section for information regarding the current fee for this service.

On July 16, 2001 Citizenship and Immigration Canada announced a change in the treatment of citizenship applications for persons legally adopted by Canadians residing outside of Canada. Visit the Canadian Immigration and Citizenship Web site

Registration of Canadians in Brunei

The Consular Section maintains a Registry of Canadians Abroad. The primary purpose of registration is to enable the High Commission to communicate with Canadians in times of natural calamities and other emergencies in order to ascertain their well being, and to provide consular assistance as required. A consular warden system is also in place to help out in such situations.

Individuals resident in or visiting Brunei for a period of longer than three (3) months are urged to register their whereabouts on line under "ROCA" or to complete the registration form available from the High Commission. Please note that the information you provide is not shared with any other Canadian government department. Only one form per family is required.

Consular Emergencies Outside the High Commission’s Office Hours

In case of a consular emergency outside office hours, you may access the 24-hour Operations Centre in Ottawa by calling collect (1-613) 996-8885. Personnel in the Operations Centre are trained in dealing with emergency situations, and can contact personnel at the High Commission if necessary.
