APPOINTMENT TO ROOSEVELT CAMPOBELLO

INTERNATIONAL PARK COMMISSION

Foreign Affairs Minister Pierre Pettigrew today announced the appointment of Justice Joseph Z. Daigle as a Canadian alternate member of the Roosevelt Campobello International Park Commission.

“I was pleased to recommend the appointment of Justice Daigle after his many years of tireless public service to the people of New Brunswick," said Minister Pettigrew. "His vast experience makes him an ideal candidate, and he will serve the interests of Canadians well in his new position.”

Justice Daigle has had a distinguished legal and political career in New Brunswick, having served as Chief Justice, and as Leader of the Opposition in the provincial legislature. He currently sits on the Court of Appeal as a supernumerary judge.

The Roosevelt Campobello International Park was established in 1964 by an international treaty between Canada and the United States. The park, on Campobello Island, New Brunswick, is the location of the summer home once used by former U.S. president Franklin Delano Roosevelt. It symbolizes the close relations between Canada and the United States. More than 130,000 people visit the park annually, touring the historic Roosevelt residence and making use of its interpretive exhibits and nature trails.
