The papers deal head-on with what are often contentious issues, in an attempt to add to the public debate on and understanding of trade.</font></p> <p><font face="Arial">"<em>Trade Policy Research 2002</em> is a forward-looking document that will stimulate thoughtful trade policy discussion," said Minister Pettigrew. "It goes beyond the 30-second sound bite to offer insight into the thinking behind trade policy." </font></p> <p><font face="Arial">This year's book builds on the research and analysis carried out in <em>Trade Policy Research 2001</em>. Subjects range from globalization to liberalizing trade in services.</font></p> <p><font face="Arial">"Trade and investment impact on the economic well-being of all Canadians," said Mr.&nbsp;Pettigrew. "As a government, we are committed to transparency and to promoting open discussion. <em>Trade Policy Research 2002</em> is part of this process." </font></p> <p><font face="Arial">Canadians are invited to read and comment on the ideas raised. There are a limited number of hard copies available in both official languages from the Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade.
