Malcolm McKechnie
Mr. McKechnie holds a B.A. with honours from York University (Toronto) and a pré-maîtrise from Laval University (Québec City). He did graduate studies in International Relations at the University of Toulouse, and at the National School of Administration (ENA) in Paris (diplôme du cycle étranger).
After joining the Canadian Foreign Service in 1971, he served in Ottawa as well as abroad at the Canadian Embassies in Mexico City, Paris and Washington, as well as at the Canadian Consulates General in New York and Los Angeles.
In 1993, Mr. McKechnie became Director of the United States Transboundary Division in the Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade (DFAIT). From 1995-1997, he was Director of Media Relations in DFAIT and served as Director of Communications (July-December 1997) for APEC 97, in Vancouver. In 1998, he was posted to Rome as Minister Counsellor for Political and Public Affairs and served as Chargé d'Affaires from September 2001 to August 2002. From September 2002 to August 2003, he served as Director General of the Communications Bureau in DFAIT. In September 2003, he was appointed Consul General of Canada in Atlanta, Georgia.
October 2005, Mr. McKechnie was appointed as Canada's new Chief of Protocol.
