<html> <head> <meta name="Generator" content="Corel WordPerfect 8"> <title>KILGOUR TO VISIT SINGAPORE, MALAYSIA AND INDONESIA</title> </head> <body text="#000000" link="#0000ff" vlink="#551a8b" alink="#ff0000" bgcolor="#c0c0c0"> <p><font size="+1"></font><font size="+1"><strong>June 13, 2002 <em>(3:30 EDT)</em> No. 69 </strong></font><font size="+1"></font></p> <p align="CENTER"><font size="+1"><strong>KILGOUR TO VISIT SINGAPORE, MALAYSIA AND INDONESIA</strong></font></p> <p>Secretary of State (Asia-Pacific) David Kilgour today announced that he will be travelling in Singapore, Malaysia and Indonesia from June 17 to 24, 2002.</p> <p>"This visit will focus on promoting Canadian science and technology, enhancing trade and investment ties with the region and exchanging views with government officials and non-governmental organizations on issues relating to human rights, good governance and security," said Mr.&nbsp;Kilgour.</p> <p>In Singapore, Mr. Kilgour will meet with Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs and Trade Raymond Lim, and Speaker of the Parliament Abdullah Tarmugi. He will also participate in CommunicAsia/BroadcastAsia--the leading annual regional trade exhibition and conference event for the telecom, information technology and broadcasting sectors--which will feature a Canadian pavilion showcasing national companies and their technologies. Finally, he will deliver an address at the Venture Capital and Partnering Forum for Canadian and Singaporean business people.</p> <p>In Malaysia, the Secretary of State will meet with Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad and Foreign Minister Syed Hamid, as well as local and Canadian business representatives. He will also open the new Canadian chancery in Kuala Lumpur and visit the Canadian Education Centre in that city prior to touring a CIDA-sponsored community development project for Aboriginal people in Gombak.</p> <p>In Indonesia, Mr. Kilgour will meet President Megawati Sukarnoputri, Minister of Trade and Industry Rini Soewandi, Minister of Energy Purnomo Yusgiantoro, Coordinating Minister for Security and Political Affairs Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono, State Minister of Revenues and State Enterprises Laksamana Sukardi, and Canadian and local business representatives.
