Consular Assistance

The Canadian Embassy in Phnom Penh does not have a consular section. By virtue of the Canada-Australia Consular Services Sharing Agreement, the Australian Embassy in Phnom Penh provides services to Canadians in Cambodia who are in need of consular assistance.

For general consular assistance, please contact the Consular Section at the Australian Embassy, Villa 11, R.V. Senei Vannavaut Oum (Street 254), Daun Penh District, Phnom Penh (country code: 855/ tel.: 023 213470/ fax: 023 213413/ e-mail: australian.embassy.cambodia@dfat.gov.au). Office hours are: Monday to Thursday, 08h00 to 12h00, 13h30 to 17h00; and Friday: 08h00 to 12h00, 13h30 to 16h15. (Please note that the designated hours pertain only to routine matters and not emergencies. Emergencies will be dealt with on an immediate basis. See Emergency Services – After Business Hours section below.)

Emergency Services – After Business Hours

The Consular Affairs Bureau of the Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade in Ottawa maintains a 24 hours a day, seven days a week Emergency Operations Centre for Canadian citizens. This service is designed to assist Canadians when our offices are closed. The service covers such matters as deaths, illness, accidents, evacuations, financial problems, missing persons, child abductions or custody, kidnapping, arrest and detention, and passports.

In the case of an after-hours emergency, Canadian citizens in need of assistance can contact the Emergency Operations Centre in Ottawa at 001-9 /9/ 6 8885. Additionally, after-hours consular assistance can be obtained from the Australian Consular Emergency Centre by calling 023 213477. A call to this number is automatically transferred to Canberra.

Passport Services

Those wishing to apply for a Canadian passport in Phnom Penh should fill out the required forms (available at the Embassy) and present them with the appropriate fee to the Canadian Embassy in Phnom Penh. Passport printing is done in Canada. Please note that it takes 15 working days to process a passport application.

Bag thefts are on the increase. Canadian travellers should not keep their passports in a purse of rucksack. A money belt or, in better hotels, a safety deposit box offers better protection.

Details on passport requirements can be found on the Canadian Embassy in Bangkok Web site at /bangkok/passport-en.asp. More passport information is available at the Canadian Passport Office Web site: http://www.ppt.gc.ca. Several passport forms are available online at http://www.ppt.gc.ca/online_forms/index_e.asp.

Registration of Canadians in Cambodia

Canada offers a registration service for Canadians who expect to be living in a foreign country for three months or more. The service is provided in case there is a need to contact Canadians to offer urgent advice during a natural disaster or civil unrest, or to advise them of a family emergency at home. The information you provide is shared with the Australian Embassy in Phnom Penh, which provides services to Canadians in Cambodia. It is not shared with any other Canadian government department. The registration is voluntary, and personal information provided on the registration form is protected and used in accordance with the provisions of the Privacy Act.

The registration form is available at the Canadian and Australian Embassies in Phnom Penh and can be submitted in person, by fax, or completed and submitted online. Only one form is required per family.

In order to keep our registration records up-to-date, please contact the Consular Section of the Canadian Embassy in Phnom Penh if you change your address, telephone numbers, e-mail address, employer, or leave the country.
