WTO Transparency
Canada believes that a greater window onto the World Trade Organization
(WTO) will better enable the public to appreciate the benefits of
liberalized trade and the clear and equitable rules that serve as
the foundation of the international trading system. At the same time,
we believe WTO members and the WTO system of agreements would benefit
from the views of the global public.

Informal Paper on External and Internal Transparency - March 24, 2000
Canada and several other WTO Members have submitted papers to shape and inform the discussion on "WTO Transparency". Canada's paper observes the established distinction between internal transparency, improved communication among Members, and external transparency, improved communications between the WTO and the public. Canada wants to see improved transparency on both fronts. This would lead to increased efficiency and inclusiveness within the Organization, and provide for greater dialogue between the WTO and stakeholders.
