The Most International Project
I am Colonel Serbin. I am head of the Department of International Cooperation of the Federal Department for Safety Storage and Destruction of Chemical Weapons. The chemical weapons destruction facility in Shchuch’ye can be called the most international project. In this project, more than 10 countries are involved, including the Canadian government. We started our collaboration with the Canadian government a while ago and our first project was the design and construction of motorways. Also, together with the Canadian government, we built some electric power lines and a gas pipeline. Right now there are two major projects on the way: One is the construction of access railroads and the other is procurement of equipment for the production building. Right now, Canada is one of our major partners. And we are hoping for further collaboration with Canada, not necessarily on this project, but on other projects, namely the project in Kizner. There are very good prospects for our collaboration in Kizner. So we are willing to continue cooperating in the area of chemical weapons destruction. This project is important because it is an integral part of the general system of chemical weapons destruction. As for the Canadian government’s involvement in this project, currently we are working on two major projects. One of them is the construction of a railroad, the main part of the infrastructure, and the other project is the procurement of the equipment for the production building. So Canada is helping us create the heart of the project, so to speak. We have always enjoyed working with Canadian partners.
