MINISTER EMERSON ANNOUNCES APPOINTMENT TO THE BOARD
OF DIRECTORS OF EXPORT DEVELOPMENT CANADA
The Honourable David Emerson, Minister of International Trade, today announced the
appointment of Dr. Norman Betts to the Board of Directors of Export Development
Canada (EDC).
“Dr. Betts’ experience in the areas of financial and managerial accounting makes him a
valuable addition to the EDC Board of Directors,” said Minister Emerson. “His research
on the accounting practices of public utilities and his expertise in the field of
management development will help EDC provide Canadian exporters and investors with
the services they need to succeed in today’s global marketplace.”
Dr. Betts has held the position of Associate Professor in the Faculty of Business
Administration at the University of New Brunswick in Fredericton since 2003. He was
elected to the Legislative Assembly of New Brunswick and sworn in as Minister of
Finance in 1999. In 2001, Dr. Betts became Minister of Business New Brunswick and
Minister responsible for Service New Brunswick; he has also held a number of other
ministerial responsibilities. Dr. Betts is Chairman of the Board of Minacs Worldwide Inc.
and also sits on the board of directors of a number of high-profile Canadian companies,
including New Brunswick Power Corporation and Tembec Inc.
Dr. Betts’ appointment to the EDC Board of Directors is for a three-year term.
