CANADIAN GOVERNMENT DENIES QUEBEC ALLEGATIONS

CANADIAN GOVERNMENT DENIES QUEBEC ALLEGATIONS
The Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade categorically denies the
Quebec government's allegation suggesting that the cancellation of Premier Lucien
Bouchard's invitation to the swearing-in ceremony of the new President of Mexico is the
result of an intervention by Ottawa with the Mexican authorities.
At no time did representatives of the Canadian government or the Canadian Embassy in
Mexico intervene with the Mexican authorities to influence the invitation made to
Premier Bouchard.
It is regrettable that Mr. Bouchard has chosen not to take part in the ceremony. The
Canadian government is in no way responsible for that decision.
