Studying in Canada

Canada welcomes foreign students. The Embassy can provide students and parents with assistance. For general information and a list of institutions, please contact the Embassy or visit the Study in Canada Web site.

The Embassy in Phnom Penh does not process student applications, but we can provide the forms to you and basic information. The student must fill out the forms and send them to the Canadian Embassy in Bangkok, along with any documentation and the necessary fee. Sometimes the Embassy in Bangkok will require an interview before they issue the visa.

The following documents are required:

  • An application form fully completed and signed
  • Four passport-size photographs taken within the last six months
  • A valid passport - the expiry date should be later than the termination of the purposed stay in Canada
  • The ORIGINAL acceptance letter from the Canadian institution the student intends to attend indicating:
    • the full name and address of the student
    • the student's date of birth
    • the course of study and level of program
    • starting date and finishing date
  • To attend an educational institution in the Province of Quebec, a "Certificat d'acceptation" or CAQ (Quebec Certificate of acceptance) issued by the Ministère des Communautés culturelles et de l'Immigration du Québec.
  • The most recent record of previous study.
  • Evidence of financial support, such as:
    • a statement of willingness and ability of guarantor to support student while in Canada (the letter must be notarized if the guarantor is not a parent of the student)
    • a recent bank statement of sponsor (at least 6 months of deposits)
    • a letter from the guarantor's employer stating salary and/ or business license of guarantor if self employed
    • a statement from the sponsoring or scholarship organization stating the nature, amount and conditions of the award.

For children under 18 years old, these additional documents are required:

__ A notarized declaration signed by the parents or legal guardian in the country of origin, stating that arrangements have been made for the custodian (custodian's full name) to act in Canada if the attention or intervention of parents or legal guardian is required.
__ A notarized declaration signed by the custodian in Canada stating his or her the willingness to accept the responsibility to act in place of a parent or legal guardian in times of emergency when immediate medical attention or intervention is required.

A student wishing to study in Canada for more than six months must undergo medical exams.
