The Canadian Embassy in Phnom Penh is a micro-mission, staffed with minimal resources. The Embassy provides services to assist in the promotion of stronger relations between Canada and Cambodia. Because of limited resources, some services are provided either by other Canadian missions in the region or by the Australian Embassy in Phnom Penh, with which we are collocated. CONSULAR SERVICES: By virtue of the Canada-Australia Consular Services Sharing Agreement, the Australian Embassy in Phnom Penh provides services to Canadians in Cambodia who are in need of consular assistance. Australian Embassy office hours are: Monday to Thursday, 08h00 to 12h00, 13h30 to 17h00; and Friday: 08h00 to 12h00, 13h30 to 16h15. In the case of an after-hours emergency, Canadian citizens in need of assistance can contact the Emergency Operations Centre in Ottawa at 001-613-996-8885. Additionally, after-hours consular assistance can be obtained from the Australian Consular Emergency Centre by calling 023 213477. A call to this number is automatically transferred to Canberra. For more information on consular and passport services, see the Consular Services page. VISAS Visas to enter Canada are not issued by the Canadian Embassy in Phnom Penh. Visitor visas and student visas are issued by the Canadian Embassy in Bangkok. Applications for visas must be forwarded to the Visa Section of the Canadian Embassy in Bangkok where the visas are issued. Visa application forms may be picked up at the Embassy in Phnom Penh. IMMIGRATION Applications for persons wishing to immigrate to Canada are processed at the Canadian High Commission in Singapore. The Canadian Embassy in Phnom Penh can provide additional information to interested parties, but more detailed information and application forms may be found on the CIC website at www.cic.gc.ca. DEVELOPMENT ASSISTANCE Canadian assistance to Cambodia is increasing. Under the International Policy Statement, Cambodia was designated one of 25 Development Partner countries. TRADE PROMOTION The Canadian Embassy in Phnom Penh assists in promoting the export of Canadian merchandise, products and professional services to Cambodia; joint ventures, strategic alliances and Cambodian investment to Canada. Mr. Vanak Chhim, Trade Commissioner, is the person responsible for providing these services. Vanal Chhim is also responsible for the marketing of Canadian educational institutions in Cambodia. POLITICAL AND ECONOMIC RELATIONS Ambassador Donica Pottie coordinates all bilateral political relations between Canada and Cambodia. She prepares high-level visits, negotiates agreements and informs Canadian officials of developments that could have an effect on Canadian interests. She maintains a close dialogue with the Royal Government of Cambodia on foreign policy matters and on issues that involve both countries. She also maintains close contact with the Royal Government and civil society on human rights.
