The Cape Breton Development Corporation (CBDC) was formed by an Act of Parliment in 1967 and is wholly owned by the Government of Canada. The Corporation, which is located on Cape Breton Island, Nova Scotia, closed its last remaining coal mine in the fall of 2001. Also at that time, a sale of surface assets including the pier, railway, and other associated assets was concluded. The remaining surplus assets and used equipment will be disposed of over the next several months.
