Northern Wood Preservers Site Sediment Remediation Project

Ontario

Description: Abitibi Price Inc., Northern Wood Preservers Inc., Canadian National Railways, Environment Canada and the Ontario Ministry of Environment and Energy have submitted a proposal to remediate contaminated sediments at the Northern Wood Preservers site in Thunder Bay.

Decision of the Minister of the Environment: On May 14, 1997, following a review of public comments and the environmental assessment report, the Minister concluded that the project is unlikely to cause significant adverse environmental effects and referred the project back to the responsible authorities for appropriate next steps.

Federal Responsible Authority(ies): Environment Canada (lead) and Fisheries & Oceans Canada
