NOTICE OF COMMENCEMENT

of an environmental assessment

1171 - Harbour Development - Lockeport, Nova Scotia

Lockeport (NS)

March 14, 2007 -- Fisheries and Oceans Canada will conduct a screening commencing on March 8, 2007 of the project: 1171 - Harbour Development - Lockeport, Nova Scotia.

The proposed project involves dredging the inner basin as well as the construction of a breakwater extension and a new service area at Lockport harbour, Nova Scotia. The scope of the project includes physical impacts associated with the construction operations involved in the harbour development project at Lockport. There are no accessory projects associated with this undertaking.

Under section 5 of the Canadian Environmental Assessment Act, an EA is required for this project because Fisheries and Oceans Canada is the proponent for the project.
