St. Theresa Point / Wasagamack Airstrip and Connecting Road

Manitoba

Description: Manitoba Transportation and Government Services (MTGS) has submitted a proposal to construct an airstrip and a 28-km all-weather road connection between St. Theresa Point First Nation and Wasagamack First Nation, located on the western shore of Island Lake, 500 km north of Winnipeg.

Decision of the Minister of the Environment: On December 20, 2001, following a review of public comments and the environmental assessment report, the Minister concluded that the project is unlikely to cause significant adverse environmental effects and referred the project back to the responsible authority for appropriate next steps.

Federal Responsible Authority(ies): Indian and Northern Affairs Canada (lead) and Fisheries and Oceans Canada. This project is being reviewed jointly with Manitoba Conservation.
