Related International Agreements

An international agreement is a tool used by the federal government to meet an increasingly complex international environmental agenda. These are negotiated and entered into by the federal government, based on positions developed through an extensive consultation process. Once the final agreement has been negotiated, countries may sign and/or ratify that agreement within a certain timeframe. In Canada, this requires Cabinet approval to sign, ratify, or accede any new agreement.
