Status Reports

Status reports are prepared based on COSEWICs candidate list and a species priority for assessment. As time and resources allow, COSEWIC will commission the preparation of status reports for candidate species.

By establishing the candidate list, COSEWIC identifies species for which status reports are desirable. In addition, any person may apply to COSEWIC for an assessment of the status of a wildlife species.

COSEWIC monitors species previously designated as being at risk and updated status report at least every 10 years. Based on the information in a status report, a species will receive a formal status designation in a species assessment.
