What is an Environmental Assessment?

An environmental assessment is a tool used by the federal government to ensure that the adverse environmental effects of proposed projects are identified and mitigated where possible. Ideally, the assessment of environmental effects and provision for mitigation is an integral part of the project planning process.

Benefits of Environmental Assessments

Timely and efficient environmental assessments will result in more informed decision making that is supportive of sustainable development. By considering environmental effects and mitigation early in your project planning, potential delays and unnecessary costs can be avoided or reduced.
