What are the Key Steps in a Federal Environmental Assessment?
If your project is subject to the Act, what are the next steps? In some cases, the responsible authority will prepare the environmental assessment. In other cases, you, as the project proponent (a person or organization that proposes to undertake a project as defined under the Act), may be asked by the responsible authority to undertake and submit an environmental assessment to them. The following provides guidance on what to do next.

Identify the type of environmental assessment - screening, class screening, comprehensive study, assessment by a review panel, or mediation

Determine the project information to be inserted into the Canadian Environmental Assessment Registry (the Registry) |

Identify the scope of the environmental assessment |

Complete the environmental assessment considering environmental factors listed in the Act |
