Air Transportation

Ottawa’s Macdonald-Cartier International Airport is a full-service airport in which you will find a visitors booth, foreign exchange counter, automated teller machines, car rental facilities, etc. It is located in close proximity to the city, and transportation from the airport to the downtown core is available by taxi ($25), hotel shuttle ($14 one way or $22 return, runs approximately every half hour), or local bus Route 97 ($3.00 exact change). Ground Transportation

Ottawa is also accessible by VIA Rail, a number of inter-city bus lines, and car.

International Travelers

Foreign citizens — including Americans travelling by air — arriving in Canada must have a valid passport, travel document, or in some cases an entry visa. More information is available from Citizenship and Immigration Canada. 

Effective January 23, 2007, American citizens require a passport if traveling to Canada by air. For more information, check the American Consular Services New Passport Requirements.

Foreign citizens changing planes in the United States on their way to Canada may be required to obtain an American visa. Please check with the American Embassy or the American Consular Services Visa Waiver Program or Transiting the U.S. to a Third Country.
