Program

The program for Symposium 2007 will run from Monday September 24 to Thursday September 27, 2007, with an optional fifth day on Friday September 28. The first four days will include:

  • ceremonies respectful of Aboriginal traditions
  • oral presentations and technical papers (including case studies and reports on best practices)
  • panel discussions
  • small discussion groups
  • tours of museums and conservation laboratories
  • hands-on demonstrations
  • a poster presentation session
  • a trade show
  • a dinner and reception

The themes, as described further in the Call for Contributions, will be:

The main program sessions will take place at Library and Archives Canada, 395 Wellington Street, Ottawa, Ontario, Canada, and will be presented in English or French with simultaneous translation .

The optional fifth day (Friday September 28) will offer concurrent workshops on the care and preservation of different types of objects, on preventive conservation, and on traditional crafts and technologies. The preliminary selection of workshops (half or full day) includes:

  • Preventive Conservation and Care of Artifacts
  • Heritage Facility Planning
  • Mount-making
  • Care of Works of Art on Paper
  • Care of Photographs
  • Modern Information Carriers
  • Pesticide Contaminated Objects: Identification and Mitigation
  • Traditional Crafts
A day trip to the Kitigan Zibi Anishinabeg Cultural, Education and Display Centre in Maniwaki, Quebec, is also being planned. Speakers and guides will be members of the community.
