The Ontario Association of Art Galleries was established in 1968 to encourage the ongoing and cooperative development of Ontario's public art galleries,art museums, community galleries and related visual arts organizations. Incorporated in Ontario by letters patent in 1970, and registered as a charitable organization, OAAG aims to serve and represent all of Ontario's public art galleries as essential and valued cultural resources.

OAAG'S MISSION

  • To establish and uphold the highest standards for the care, preservation, and presentation of the visual arts in Canada;
  • To support public access to the visual arts in communities throughout Ontario;
  • To develop programs which enlarge knowledge, understanding and enjoyment of the visual arts;
  • To foster positive and responsive relationships with the public, volunteers, cultural trustees, granting agencies, all levels of government and the media;
  • To promote art gallery and cultural work as valuable professions;
  • To publicly recognize high achievement in the visual arts.
