Architectural Heritage Conservation Services


For architectural and site projects CCI can provide consultation and project management services related to the conservation of artwork and decorative finishes, as well as historic elements that form a permanent part of the building or site. CCI specifications and services reduce the risk of future deterioration from the use of incompatible or environmentally sensitive materials.

Direct services offered include:

Site Services

  • site inspection, surveys of interior finishes and materials, condition assessment, and feasibility studies
  • conservation project management
  • quality control inspections
  • conservation maintenance programs
  • pest and infestation management

Specifications Services

  • preparation of tenders and supervision of contracts
  • conservation-related building systems specifications for lighting, fire, security, and climate control
  • specifications for the fabrication and installation of decorative elements, reproductions, and public art

Analytical Services

  • complete range of analytical services for the identification of fibres, paints, coatings, pigments, wood, plastics, adhesives, glass, stone, and metals, and identification of historic materials
  • colour measurement and matching (colorimetry) for paint, metal leaf, and other surfaces
  • identification of lead
  • specialized technical photography before, during, and after conservation, and X- radiography, IR reflectography, etc.

  • mural paintings, decorative painted wall and ceiling treatments, and painted glass and metal
  • stained glass
  • interior furnishings, wooden panelling and mouldings, and wooden architectural sculpture
  • leather and textile coverings for furniture
  • large format textiles, wall and ceiling coverings and tapestries, and painted banners
  • wallpaper and paper-based materials, finishes, and objects including rare books and oversize maps
  • metal fixtures and building components
  • metal leaf finishes (gilding)

Additional services offered by CCI include:

  • conservation treatment
  • consolidation of powdery paint
  • design of purpose-built apparatus for unusual conservation treatment problems
  • consultation on coatings systems
  • consultation on metal conservation processes such as patination, filling, casting, extrusion, electroplating, and anodizing
  • provision of treatment facilities for oversize objects and for washing and stain removal for large textiles
  • commissioning of replacement and reproduction components and materials
  • site and collections surveys
