Expenditure Review Savings

In December 2003, the Prime Minister established the Expenditure Review Committee as part of a series of initiatives designed to strengthen the Government’s financial management and accountability. Expenditure review is about managing tax dollars wisely, effectively and efficiently and ensuring that the Government can make the best possible investments in the areas that matter most to Canadians.

Departments and agencies, including the Canadian Environmental Assessment Agency, have been asked to work toward this goal. Budget 2005 identifies nearly $11 billion in cumulative savings over the next five years for re-allocation to higher priority areas.

Expenditure Review decisions affecting the Agency are as follows:

Measures ($ Millions) Description

Program Efficiencies 0.05 0.10 0.15 0.15 0.15 0.60 Streamline the operations of consultation and advisory committees without affecting program objectives
