Fisheries and Oceans Canada and Environment Canada will conduct a screening commencing on July 26, 2004 of the project:
MAINTENANCE DREDGING, ACCESS CHANNEL, SELEINE MINES, GRANDE-ENTRÉE LAGOON.
The Canadian Salt Company Limited plans to perform maintenance dredging in its access channel in the Grande-Entrée lagoon, Magdalen Islands, in order to maintain a safe depth for navigation. The dredged sediment will be disposed of at sea.
The scope of the project consists of maintenance dredging of the Grande-Entrée channel and open-water disposal of sediments for the maintenance dredging planned for 2007.
Under section 5 of the Canadian Environmental Assessment Act, an EA is required for this project because Fisheries and Oceans Canada may issue a permit or license under subsection 35(2) of the Fisheries Act and Environment Canada may issue a permit or license under subsection 71(1) of the Canadian Environmental Protection Act.
This project is also being assessed by the Government of Québec.
The Canadian Environmental Assessment Agency will act as the Federal Environmental Assessment Coordinator for this environmental assessment.
