CONSTRUCTION OF A HYDROELECTRIC POWER STATION, MATAWIN DAM, BAIE-DE-LA-BOUTEILLE

Fisheries and Oceans Canada will conduct a screening commencing on November 14, 2003 of the project:
CONSTRUCTION OF A HYDROELECTRIC POWER STATION, MATAWIN DAM, BAIE-DE-LA-BOUTEILLE .
CONSTRUCTION OF A 18MW POWER STATION AT THE BASE OF AN EXISTING DAM (MATAWIN DAM) AT THE TAUREAU RESERVOIR.
The scope of work includes the construction and the exploitation of the hydroelectric power plant in the Matawin dam as well as the modifications brought to the dam. All th ralted works necessary for the realization of the main project (eg: road access, camps, loan benches, deposit sites etc.) are also included in the environmental evaluation.
Under section 5 of the Canadian Environmental Assessment Act, an EA is required for this project because Fisheries and Oceans Canada may issue a permit or license under subsection 35(2) of the Fisheries Act.
This project is also being assessed by the Government of Québec.
The Canadian Environmental Assessment Agency will act as the Federal Environmental Assessment Coordinator for this environmental assessment.
